Yep we are in crunch time now. One week until we are opening the curtain on our first night. As always we are wishing we had another two weeks! The set is coming together, as always not entirely what I had in my head but there are ALWAYS compromises in community theatre! But I am still pleased with it.
The cast has been working super hard, our Dame is astonishing, the Henchmen hilarious, the villian is evil, Goldi is gorgeous, Dudley is… well… Dudley, the bears are bearable, Town Crier is crier-ing, chef is in charge, Abby adorable and the chorus courageous!
As always there is the stress of last minute changes, there is still A LOT to do and with the dreaded plague going through the cast here’s hoping we are sniffle free this time next week!

It’s official, this year’s NAGs Panto is big news. In case you haven’t seen it, we’re on the front page of the British Canadian Newspaper! Okay, so you might not know what the British Canadian Newspaper is, and therefore you might not have seen the ad, but it is a big deal to us!
Only a few more weeks and we’ll be ready. All of the cast and crew have been working hard in the New Year to get ready for a great show and it is finally all starting to come together. We’ve even had to battle through a lack of rehearsal space as the Tranzac is even preparing for the Panto with… wait for it… NEW FLOORS!!!
Okay, so I’m a little bit excited.
Can’t wait to see you there!

Wow just back from what was a great rehearsal tonight. I know that it may not have felt like that for everybody but let me tell you why it was so good.
We have been struggling for rehearsal space these past few weeks, mainly due our usual spots at the tranzac being booked up because of the holidays. To our rescue has come the amazing and wonderful Suzitaps (see previous post). Rehearsing in her lovely home has been great, relaxed and certainly welcoming! This has given a very unique feel to rehearsals however this week we got the rehearse on the stage (Tuesday) and at the Fringe Creation Lab tonight, and the difference in feel and attitude was palatable.
Within 5 mins of being in the rehearsal space tonight the cast began to act like ‘actors’, they were preparing, warming up and stretching. People were finding their processes and characters and for me I certainly felt like I inhabited my director space. It was great that (nearly) everybody was on time and engaged in the warm up. and we got to run THE WHOLE OF ACT 1!!
Yes it is still rough. Yes we were a cast member down (we have a poorly bear) and Yes there were a number of missed lines BUT over all I was really pleased and super excited to be going into our first music rehearsal this Sunday, when we will start tackling the musical numbers in the show! I see chorus lines, high kicks, feathers, sequins……
ok maybe not quiet Broadway, but it is something to aim for right??

I just wanted to send a HUGE “thank you” to Suzitaps for letting us use her house for rehearsal space! It has been a challenge finding somewhere for us to rehearse for this amazing Panto and Suzitaps has opened her doors to us (and her cupboards at times)!
We love you!
